(LOT 85)
1934 Goudey #1 Jimmie Foxx PSA 8 NM-MT – Only One PSA Example Graded Higher!

RARE FOXX!!! Fresh off the heels of his remarkable 1933 Triple Crown campaign when Jimmie Foxx led the Junior Circuit with 48 round-trippers, 163 RBIs and a superb .356 batting average, it was more than fitting that the Goudey Gum Company of Boston, Massachusetts would select "XX" to be the #1 subject in their prestigious 1934 bubble gum card set. As collectors surely realize, any #1 subject, let alone one approaching its 89th birthday, is subject to numerous condition related issues due to its typical placement on the top of the stack.

That said, this absolutely breathtaking PSA 8 NM-MT 1934 Goudey Jimmie Foxx offering is one of the most significant Goudey cards for the grade, with only 3% of the 550+ PSA encapsulated copies worthy of the 8 assessment and bested by only a single PSA example! Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx will forever be regarded as one of the greatest right-handed hitters in baseball history (along with the likes of Hornsby, Aaron & Pujols); finishing his magnificent career with the Boston Red Sox after playing 11 seasons with Connie Mack's Athletics. Starting his career in 1925 with the Philadelphia A's, Foxx steadily increased his at-bats each year until he finally played his first full season in 1929.

It was that fateful 1929 campaign that The Beast broke out of his cage with 33 home runs, 118 RBIs and a sensational .354 batting average. He would eventually end his incredible career with 534 round-trippers and knocking in 100 or more runs, an unfathomable 13 consecutive seasons from 1929 through 1941. His uncanny power placed immense fear in the hearts of opposing pitchers, and he walloped 30 or more home runs in 12 consecutive seasons, including two seasons in which he blasted 58 and 50 dingers! For all these reasons, collectors actively pursue his highly coveted artifacts, justifying why this remarkable PSA 8 Goudey offering stands as one of Foxx's highly coveted cardboard gems.

The classic batting image portrays Foxx completing his mighty swing, with the sparkling pose literally jumping off the card via the radiant yellow background that nearly creates a 3D impression. Atypically for this particular subject, the illustration reveals near-perfect centering between four bright white borders, with the right-angled corners, relatively clean surfaces and razor-sharp perimeter the final compliments for this sensational offering. Pack-fresh to say the least, it stands as a vivid reminder of how Foxx's immense power tested the confines of any ballpark, with his unfathomable batting statistics justifying his elite standing in our National Pastime's glorious history!
