(LOT 69)
"Unique for the Grade" 1933 DeLong Gum Co. #12 Harold "Pie" Traynor PSA 9 MINT - "POP 1" & The Highest Graded PSA Example!

POP 1; HIGHEST GRADED TRAYNOR!!! The DeLong Gum Co. in Boston was one of the first manufacturers to issue baseball cards with gum when they produced their popular 24-card set in 1933. One of the more desirable players in the set is Pittsburgh Hall of Fame third baseman Harold "Pie" Traynor, presented here in a remarkable PSA 9 MINT holder. The SOLE example at this hallowed plateau, of the 160+ encapsulated Traynor copies, not a single PSA 10 exists, placing this Cooperstown worthy offering as the undisputed finest of its kind! Synonymous with its PSA Pop Chart standing was Pie Traynor's long-time stature as our National Pastime's greatest all-time third sacker. For many years, the hard hitting/slick fielding infielder was at the top of many historians lists as the hot corner's best of the rest.

However, with the emergence of fellow Hall of Famers since the 1950s such as Eddie Mathews, Brooks Robinson, Mike Schmidt, George Brett & Chipper Jones, Traynor now simply resides as another one of baseball's premier third baseman. Traynor's classic "ready to field" crouching black & white pose is set against the famous DeLong stadium backdrop, accompanied by a robust array of yellow, green, red and blue colors. Atypical for most DeLong subjects is the excellent centering that only reveals a negligible partiality towards the upper edge. Pristine surfaces, sharp corner tips, crystal clear clarity and the verso's vivid print registration complete this pack-fresh DeLong marvel that miraculously just happens to be one of only two PSA 9s for ALL 24 DeLong subjects, with not a sole PSA 10! Indeed folks, that is correct with the illustrious PSA Pop Chart revealing this Pie Traynor offering and a single Marty McManus example as the only two PSA 9 examples!
