(LOT 57)
The Finest 1933 DeLong Gum Co. Set - #1 on the PSA Set Registry w/All 24 PSA Graded Cards Tallying an Extraordinary 8.973 G.P.A. w/Top Pop Bonuses

Along with the Goudey Gum Company, Boston's DeLong Gum Co. was one of the first manufacturers to issue baseball cards with gum when they produced their popular 24-card set in 1933. Utilizing a sparkling array of red, green, yellow and blue hues, their unique style images only seen on DeLong subjects were affixed to a stadium backdrop and are extremely popular with sophisticated collectors. Several major facets of this 89-year-old issue include its limited checklist enabling many enthusiasts a strong opportunity to complete the set, the aforementioned unique player poses, and its abundance of Hall of Famers with 15 subjects (62.5% of the set) enshrined in Cooperstown, New York. Heading the list of baseball immortals is the incomparable Henry Louis Gehrig, with his DeLong subject listed in PSA's "Top 250 Sportscards" publication and sporting a sensational PSA 8 NM-MT grade in this offered set. Additional diamond legends include Jimmy Foxx, Lefty Grove, Mickey Cochrane, Chuck Klein and Al Simmons, just to mention a few with the complete checklist reading like a baseball "Who's Who" star catalog for the 1930s decade.

Presented here is a complete 1933 DeLong gathering with all 24 subjects encapsulated by the prestigious PSA Grading Company. Amazingly, it resides as the current #1 set on the illustrious PSA Set Registry, with the abundance of 19 highest graded cards lending itself to an extraordinary 8.973 G.P.A. w/Top Pop Bonuses! Every card has achieved a PSA 7 Near-Mint or better assessment with the summary of grades as follows: PSA 9 Mint (1 card); PSA 8.5 (4 cards); PSA 8 (16 cards); PSA 7 (3 cards). Most significantly, five of the cards are POP 1/Highest Graded Examples (Traynor-9; Cuyler-8.5; Urbanski-8.5; Gomez-8.5; Martin-8.5), with 14 additional subjects reflecting multiple POP/Highest Graded population figures. Virtually all of the cards reflect pack-fresh aesthetics including brilliant hues and right-angled corners, and considering the standard stigma for 1933 DeLongs has always been the consistent off-centering issues plaguing many of the existing subject, a majority of these 24 specimens depict relatively fine positioned images.

Seldom is a serious vintage enthusiasts afforded an opportunity to capture all 24 DeLong subjects exhibiting world-class assessments, with this best of the best #1 set just a final bid away from being a centerpiece attraction for your esteemed vintage collection. For our bidders' convenience, the enclosed chart lists all 24 subjects in checklist number order and includes the PSA Grade; POP; and POP Higher figures for each card. This #1 current set is listed on the PSA Registry as "ruby (3)".

(*) NOTE: All 24 cards are also being offered as separate lots over the next 24 lots, with the final sale ultimately determined by the higher bid amount for the (1) aggregate of each individual lot or (2) the complete set.
