(LOT 1381)
1933 DeLong #21 Jimmy Foxx PSA 8 NM-MT

Similar to the unparalleled power of Jimmy Foxx's mighty swing comes along this astonishing PSA 8 NM-MT 1933 DeLong specimen that along with eight other examples resides as the finest of its kind! Issued by the DeLong Gum Company of Boston, Mass. in 1933, the 24-subject set includes some of baseball's premier 1930s stars including Gehrig, Foxx, Simmons, and Grove. Along with Aaron and Hornsby, Jimmy Foxx is regarded as one of the three greatest right-handed hitters in baseball history, with the hard-hitting first sacker's .325 lifetime batting average, 1,921 RBIs, 534 home runs, 1933 Triple Crown and incredible 13 consecutive seasons of 100+ RBIs substantiating that notion. Ironically, the year this card was issued, Foxx would claim the aforementioned American League Triple Crown by belting 48 dingers, knocking in 163 runs and posting a sensational .356 batting average via his 204 safeties. He was now the toast of the town, with the "City of Brotherly Love" worshiping this supernatural slugger who so appropriately was nicknamed "The Beast" due to his muscular physique and uncanny power. He is one of the handful of sluggers that belted a home run into Yankee Stadium's left field upper deck, and this breathtaking image reveals Foxx unleashing his mighty swing that has most likely crushed another horsehide sphere towards the furthest confines of another ballpark.

Save Ruth, Gehrig and DiMaggio, his 1930s cards are widely recognized as the most desirable and valuable cardboard mementos from that decade. This PSA 8 offering's pristine condition absolutely defies logic as it appears to have just been "pulled" from a 1933 DeLong gum pack. His classic swinging pose is virtually unimprovable, providing brilliant aesthetics via its superior contrast and rich red, green, yellow and blue hues. The imposing swinging pose reflects atypical fine centering, with most DeLong subjects revealing poorly skewed images. Pinpoint corners, bright white borders, sparkling surfaces and the versos bold/vivid text are the final compliments for one of the finest Foxx cards extant. Unlike the myriad of 1933 Foxx Goudey's in circulation (there are nearly 1,500 PSA encapsulated Foxx 1933 Goudey's), the 150+ DeLong Foxx PSA population represents approximately 10% of the total 1933 Goudey Foxx PSA count, justifying the bona fide scarcity of the Delong Foxx versus its 1933 Goudey brethren. That said, now is the perfect time to emulate "Double X" himself by stepping up to the plate and capturing this "rare for the assessment" highest graded pack-fresh masterpiece!
