(LOT 1281)
c.1940s Ebbets Field PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Barry Stein Photo - Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

Situated in Flatbush, Brooklyn and named after the legendary Brooklyn Robins owner Charles Ebbets, the iconic Ebbets Field opened its doors on April 5, 1912 for an exhibition game between the N.Y. Yankees and Brooklyn (won by the Yankees) before some 30,000 patrons. Its inaugural "official" game was played on April 9, 1913, as the Philadelphia Phillies bested Brooklyn by a 1-0 score. This truly eclectic PSA Type 1 "aerial" view photo of Ebbets Field was taken during the 1940s and reflects what appears to be a "run-down" play near home plate, with Brooklyn facing their cross-town New York Giants rivals. The classic bunting hanging along the upper and lower railings leads us to believe the illustration was taken during one of Brooklyn's three opening day games against New York played at Ebbets Field during the 1940s (1941, 1943 or 1949). Crystal clear to say the least, the brilliant 8" x 10" image is extremely well centered and reveals no glaring flaws, with only some surface cracking/creasing situated along the upper right border. The final compliment is the critical Barney Stein credit stamp on the verso, etching in stone its ironclad Type 1 stature.
