1938 Babe Ruth & Tony Lazzeri PSA Type 1 Encapsulated International News Photo - Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2"

This 1938 International News Type 1 Photo portrays two baseball immortals, Babe Ruth and Tony Lazzeri, greeting each other before game time. The iconic "Bambino" is now showing off his Brooklyn Dodgers coaching uniform, having been retired for three seasons, while Lazzeri dons his new Chicago Cubs flannels after playing 12 seasons with the Yankees. It was a little over a decade ago that these legends joined forces in the "Big Apple" with Gehrig, Combs and Meusel to form the renowned "Murderers' Row" in leading the mighty Yankees to two consecutive World Championships in 1927-28. Eclectic to say the least, this rare offering measures approximately 6-1/2" x 8-1/2", with the crystal clear illustration revealing Ruth whispering a message in Lazzeri's right ear. The black & white image offers near-perfect contrast and has eluded any noteworthy flaws, with the verso including a paper caption affixed directly over the significant "International News Photos" credit stamp. Lazzeri wound up playing only one year in the "Windy City" before retiring in 1939 with the New York Giants, while Ruth would only enjoy that single 1938 season as the Dodgers' first base coach. A super-neat PSA authenticated Type 1 photo exhibiting two of our National Pastime's greatest players, it merits serious accolades from any advanced photo enthusiast!
