(LOT 1277)
1937 Acme Newspictures Type 1 Jimmie Foxx 5" x 7" Photograph - PSA Encapsulated Authentic

BOSTON BEAST!!! With 13 seasons under his belt by 1937, Jimmie Foxx already had amassed a Hall of Fame resume. Spending 11 years in Philadelphia and two more in Beantown, Foxx's numbers included 379 home runs, 1,345 RBIs and a .334 batting average, not to mention five All-Star appearances and two of his three MVP awards. He embodied his nickname "The Beast". The offered Acme Newspictures type 1 photograph is also a beast. This 5" x 7" image of Foxx shows the grizzled veteran in his Boston uniform staring coldly into the camera as if to say, "Let's get this over with". The PSA encapsulated image photo remains in excellent condition with only the slightest bit of toning at bottom left, but the borders and corners have survived 85 years of handling wear. Surfaces abrasions are present, but nothing can detract from Double X's surly demeanor. The back still carries the original paper caption entitled "FIRST BASEMAN WITH THE BOSTON REDS" dated 3/12/37. The ACME Newspictures "N.E.A." stamping is also present in bluish-purple, but overall, the reverse is clean. This is a marvelous photograph of one of the most feared sluggers in American League, let alone MLB, history!
