(LOT 1247)
c.1920s Lloyd Waner 8" x 10" Type 1 Original Phone Todd Studios Photograph - PSA Encapsulated

In 1927, at the sagely age of 21, Pittsburgh Pirates rookie Lloyd Waner tied the New York Giants' Rogers Hornsby with a league-leading 133 runs, was second in the league in hits with 223 and finished third in batting average at .355 behind his brother Paul (.380) and Hornsby (.361). The younger of the two Hall of Fame Waner brothers was a hitting machine as he posted 12 seasons with 100 hits or more, including four with 200+. Little Poison also posted a .982 fielding percentage in centerfield for the Buccos over 17 seasons in the Steel City. Offered is a vintage 1920s Type 1 photograph of the Pirates center fielder. This 8" x 10" Phone Todd Studios shows his left-handed batting follow through as he peers into the camera. Some toning is apparent at the upper portions, and only the slightest of green discoloration is visible on Waner's left shoulder. Minor corner creasing is visible with light surface abrasions, but little can detract from this image of the Hall of Fame Pirate. The reverse has a "PHONE TODD STUDIOS" stamp at center with pencil notations, but otherwise in excellent condition.
