1955 Topps #2 Ted Williams PSA 9 Mint - NONE Graded Higher!

Ted Williams heroic stints in two wars as well as his arguable status as baseball's "greatest hitter ever" has earned "Teddy Ballgame" iconic stature second to none. This Boston Red Sox legend, via his myriad of unparalleled hitting achievements and fighter pilot war accomplishments, captivated a country and stands as the true embodiment of an American hero. It's no coincidence that the "Splendid Splinter" even managed to hit a home run in the last swing of his illustrious career; poetic justice at its best for baseball's greatest all-time hitter! The aforementioned accolades certainly attest to Ted's legacy, and it's this reason why a myriad of high-end vintage card collectors seek to attain his most valuable artifacts. One of his most popular baseball cards is the 1955 Topps #2 subject depicting two classic colorful lithographic poses of the iconic batter. Synonymous with his supreme batting exploits, it just so happens this remarkable PSA Mint 9 Ted Williams offering currently shares the spotlight with nine other copies as the finest of its kind! While PSA has handled over 5,000 examples, not a single specimen has managed to be awarded the "perfect" 10 GEM MINT assessment.

The card itself depicts two sparkling Williams images (one portrait and one batting), with the flawless picture set against a brilliant yellow/white hued background. Typical for this issue, the image does not reveal perfect centering, somewhat favoring the lower left edges between four absolutely dazzling white borders. Glistening surfaces, pinpoint corner tips, and a super clean verso complete this breathtaking marvel that has defiantly withstood the test of time, and had it not been for the modest "off-centering", we just might be viewing the one and only PSA 10 example. Yet, with only nine other copies boasting the 9 MINT grade, this grand offering will more than suffice for the most sophisticated collectors. Still undervalued, high-grade/low "Pop" Ted Williams cards represent some of the finest investment buys in the hobby. Ted Williams is accepted as the greatest hitter in our National Pastime's glorious history, with this "best of the rest" memento the perfect testament for his unparalleled iconic legacy!
