1951 World Series Game Two Ticket Stub PSA 2 GOOD - Mickey Mantle's First World Series Hit & Injures His Right Knee - Only 3 PSA Examples Graded Higher!

The 1951 Fall Classic would pit the N.Y. Giants versus their cross-river rival N.Y. Yankees. Momentous to say the least, this Series would see the two "Big Apple" centerfield rookie sensations Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays making their World Series debuts, while the immortal "Joltin' Joe" DiMaggio would be playing in his final Fall Classic. The first two games would take place at Yankee Stadium with the Giants claiming game one by a 5-1 score, with Mantle and Mays both going hitless in their World Series debuts. Game two would be played on Friday, October 5th before 66,018 captivated fans, with the Yankees evening the Series via Ed Lopat's outstanding 3-1 complete game five-hitter. Of utmost significance, in the bottom of the first inning, Mantle would jump-start the Yankees with a clean single, the FIRST World Series hit of "The Mick's" legendary career. Mantle would later score that inning on Gil McDougald's single, quickly putting the Yankees up 1-0. Sadly, however, the 3-1 victory would be a somewhat anti-climax, for the critical aspect of this game came in the fifth inning when Mantle (playing rightfield) and DiMaggio converged on the "Say Hey Kid's" line drive to deep right-center. DiMaggio got to the ball first and yelled "I got it." At that moment, Mantle certainly didn't want to run into the iconic Yankee Clipper, so in his attempt to abruptly stop, his cleat got caught in a rubber drainage/sprinkler hole and he severely sprained his right knee.

Mantle had to be carried off the field on a stretcher and was done for the Series, with this injury the first of a myriad of nagging setbacks the great "Mick" would endure throughout his illustrious HOF career. The Yankees would ultimately win the World Championship in six games, with Mays stroking his first Series hit in game three, and DiMaggio eventually announcing his exalted retirement on December 11, 1951. This seldom-surfacing PSA 2 ticket stub offering just happens to be for that significant game two Fall Classic contest that saw the incomparable Mickey Mantle stroke his inaugural World Series hit while also injuring his knee. Of the 31 PSA encapsulated examples, only three have managed to be awarded a higher PSA assessment, with PSA's label duly noting: "MANTLE 1ST WS HIT/INJURED." The ticket is for a Mezzanine Box Seat in Section 21; BOX 151A; Seat 2, and the attendee paid only $8.00. Multiple Yankee logos still retain a majority of their original sparkling hues, and the lower portion reveals the typical rough edging, due to the gate usher tearing the complete ticket at the point of entry into the Stadium. No glaring flaws are evident on either side, with "GAME 2" boldly affixed in several areas on the obverse side. An extremely historic offering, it conjures up memories of how the "Oklahoma Kid" would embark on an incredible MLB career that would see the supernatural-like slugger blast 536 lifetime home runs, while adding an additional 18 round-trippers in the World Series that still stands as an all-time record!
