Indeed, the names in this 66-card '61 Fleer inaugural set represent some of the greatest players to ever grace the hardwood court, loaded with a myriad of Hall of Famers. If you are fortunate enough to be the final bidder on this museum worthy offering and ultimately decide to open the wax packs, you would probably be blessed with ascertaining multiple stars, based on the 66-card checklist.
This esteemed 24-pack nickel wax box is authenticated by Steve Hart from BBCE, and is accompanied by a signed LOA from the hobby's foremost unopened pack expert. Miraculously, when the packs were individually authenticated by Steve Hart, he noted that three of the 24 packs were unique as follows: One pack includes a #8 Wilt Chamberlain Rookie on top, one pack exhibits a #47 Wilt Chamberlain IA on top and an additional pack just happens to reveal a #3 Elgin Baylor Rookie... Wow! Consider that a PSA 9 Chamberlain #8 rookie sold for a whopping $348,000 in January 2022, while a PSA 9 Elgin Baylor #3 fetched $32,000 in October 2021, with these bona fide incorporated subjects possibly worthy of the near-impossible 10 Gem Mint assessment. Additional noteworthy PSA 9 rookie card sales include $72,000 for an Oscar Robertson in November 2021, and $84,000 for the highly coveted Jerry West subject in February 2022.
Along with the also exalted 1957 Topps and 1986 Fleer compilations, the 1961 Fleer set firmly resides as one of the hobby's most sanctified basketball sets. Justifying this notion is a prior unopened 1961 Fleer Basketball Wax Box, likewise authenticated by BBCE, selling for a staggering $450,000 in June of 2021. Courtesy of Memory Lane, 24 unopened packs now await an extremely fortunate winning bidder, potentially containing GEM MINT examples of cards that would highlight any advanced collection. Consider that at the time this was written, only 103 or a fractional 0.3% of the roughly 38,000 PSA encapsulated cards have been awarded the premier 10 GEM MINT grade, once again substantiating the unparalleled excitement generated by this unearthed wax box of basketball immortals. While there are certainly no grading guarantees, it certainly appears that this '61/62 Fleer Wax Box bears a formidable possibility of achieving multiple high-grade rookies.
Synonymous to a kid in a local "mom & pop" store, a number of captivated enthusiasts may be tempted into "rolling the dice" and opening at least a few (if not all) of these wax pack marvels, with the likelihood of achieving an abundance of lofty assessments surely existing.
