(LOT 167)
1963 Fleer #56 Signed Roberto Clemente PSA 8 NM-MT AUTO GRADE - One of Only Three Examples on the PSA "Pop" Chart!

Total Autographed Pop: 3; Total "Un-Signed" Pop: 2,411; Var.% (Signed vs. Un-Signed Pop): 0.12%
The only Roberto Clemente card in this world-class autographed collection not issued by the Topps Chewing Gum Company is this momentous 1963 Fleer offering that has been neatly scripted "Roberto Clemente" in fine blue ink. One of only three signed 1963 Fleer #56 subjects listed on the prestigious PSA census report, those three scripted subjects represent only 0.12% of the total 1963 Fleer Clemente cards handled by the renowned PSA card graders. The rare blue ink signature reflects a desirable PSA 8 NM-MT assessment, with the "Roberto Clemente" signature situated across his upper left chest/shoulder area. The 1963 Fleer compilation included 66 subjects, with the #56 Clemente joining Willie Mays, Sandy Koufax, and Bob Gibson as one of the set's four most illustrious players.

The 1963 season would see Clemente eclipse the .300 mark for the fourth consecutive campaign, with his robust .320 batting average and third successive Gold Glove Award rightfully earning him his seventh All-Star game appearance. One of Clemente's most desirable issues has always been his 1963 Fleer card that seldom surfaces for the taking, let alone one of the only three known autographed examples. Although not reflecting a PSA card grade, its spectacular aesthetics obviously suggest a potential "VG-EX" assessment, bolstered by the brilliant image quality, somewhat right-angled corners, bright white borders and lack of any glaring surface blemishes. The only non-Topps card included in this miraculous Clemente gathering, its undisputed PSA "Pop 3" standing and PSA 8 signature grade earn it a solid niche in any esteemed autograph collection, with its sheer existence placing it as one of Clemente's rarest signed cards extant!
