(LOT 2119)
1914 Eddie Plank Advertising Piece from Royal Tailors of Chicago & New York

The days of distinguished baseball have long passed us by. During the first half of the 20th century, attending a baseball game was an event worthy of a suit and tie for men and dresses for the ladies. Those days are over as the American people have come to adopt more weather appropriate attire that will offer comfort in the heat of summer in humid St. Louis, Kansas City or Miami. Shorts and t-shirts are the new norm, and sometimes less, for the overserved. However, in 1914, the Royal Tailors of Chicago and New York tapped into that market using the dapper Chicago White Sox pitcher Eddie Plank to don their "Style 623 – B" "623-B – Three button, soft roll, English sack" suit. The offered colorful lithograph features the derby clad hurler, cigar in hand, stately posing as a female admirer looks to catch his eye in the background. This matted 19" x 22" advertisement remains in exceptional condition with bright white borders and minimal wear at the edges, the softest of toning and clean surfaces. (A second subject for the esteemed Tailor was author Jack London.)
