(LOT 837)
"Unique for the Grade" 1958 Topps #118 Harvey Haddix PSA 10 GEM MINT – "POP 1"; The SOLE Highest Graded PSA Example!

The date was May 26, 1959, and Pittsburgh Pirates crafty southpaw Harvey Haddix etched his indelible stamp on baseball immortality. For 12 innings, Haddix held the Milwaukee Braves to no runs, no hits, no walks and there were no errors – not a single Brave had reached first base safely! Indeed, Haddix had pitched 12 perfect innings, with his Pirates also unable to score a run. In the bottom of the 13th, Felix Mantilla opened the inning by reaching safely on an error by third baseman Don Hoak. After a sacrifice and an intentional walk to Hank Aaron, Joe Adcock hit an official game-winning double (originally a 3-run homer that was eventually ruled a double due to Aaron's baserunning gaffe), with Haddix suffering a devastating 1-0 loss. Historical to say the least, this likewise miraculous PSA GEM MINT 10 1958 Topps Haddix marvel has achieved "POP 1" stature, standing tall as the perfect testament to Haddix's "once in a lifetime performance." Via its immaculate eye pleasing attributes and PSA 10 assessment, this "perfect 10" offering will forever conjure up memories of the day Haddix twirled his unprecedented 12-inning perfect game!
