(LOT 819)
"Unique for the Grade" 1958 Topps #72 Bud Byerly (w/an Inadvertent Hal Griggs' Image) PSA 10 GEM MINT – "POP 1"

Right-handed hurler Bud Byerly tooled around in the big-leagues for 11 years, playing with five different teams while finishing his career after the 1960 campaign with a mediocre 22-22 won/lost record. Fortunately for Byerly, this stunning PSA 10 GEM MINT 1958 Topps offering far surpasses his mediocrity level, with its pinnacle assessment placing it as sole and highest graded PSA example! Of significant interest, Topps inadvertently affixed Hal Griggs' image on the obverse side, literally adding insult to injury for Byerly's subpar MLB career (it should be noted that the 1958 Topps #455 subject for Hal Griggs ironically portrays a Bud Byerly image, with the Topps Company erroneously mixing up the images for these two players). As most sophisticated enthusiasts would attest to, it is the "10" grade that "steals the show", with the breathtaking aesthetics highlighted by sparkling hues, dazzling white borders, blemish free surfaces, superb centering, and a razor-sharp perimeter. The uncontested "best of the rest", it stands tall among its 230 PSA encapsulated peers as an unequivocal "POP 1" marvel worthy of the highest hobby accolades!
