(LOT 771)
"Unique for the Grade" 1954 Bowman #222 Memo Luna PSA 10 GEM MINT – "POP 1": The SOLE Highest Graded Example!

It is truly an extraordinary occurrence that southpaw pitcher Memo Luna ever appeared in the 1954 Bowman set. The St. Louis Cardinals left-hander made his MLB debut on April 20, 1954 against the Cincinnati Red and yielded two runs in two-thirds of an inning, with that sole game being the first and last of his ultra-brief MLB career. Indeed, Luna's MLB career was over in a blink, yet somehow... someway, the Bowman Gum Company managed to include Memo Luna as their #222 subject based on his one-game appearance. That said, presented here is an absolutely miraculous PSA 10 GEM MINT 1954 Bowman Luna "POP 1" marvel that stands as the undisputed finest of its kind! Luna would be sent down to the Cardinals Class AAA Rochester Red Wings team shortly after his sole MLB appearance, and while he played eight minor league campaigns as well as four seasons in the Mexican League, he would never again play major league baseball. Fortunately for Luna, his representation on this "unique for the grade" PSA 10 fortifies his professional baseball legacy, for virtually every sophisticated set collector will wage a severe battle to claim its final ownership. Luna's "hands over head" pitching pose is absolutely breathtaking, with the southpaw emanating sparkling red/blue hues from his Cardinals cap and uniform. A gleaming surface, pin-point corners, fine centering only modestly favoring the right edge and bright white borders are additional superlatives substantiating its unequivocal "10" assessment!
