(LOT 750)
1954 Bowman #199 Steve Gromek PSA 10 GEM MINT – "POP 2"; Highest Graded Example!

Switch-hitting pitcher Steve Gromek toed the rubber for an impressive 17 MLB season, a majority of them spent with the Cleveland Indians. Before the end of the 1953 campaign, Cleveland would trade Gromek to the Detroit Tigers, with the right-handed twirler posting his finest season the following 1954 campaign by winning 18 games and compiling a superb 2.74 E.R.A. in the "Motor City". Ironically, that same season, the Bowman Gum Company would release their ultra-popular '54 Gum set that included a stoic Gromek Detroit Tigers image on subject #199. It is this card that we proudly present in a magnificent PSA 10 GEM MINT holder, one of only two specimens that have managed to achieve the pinnacle of grading success! Gromek's stoic portrait image reveals an array of breathtaking hues as he dons his Detroit-road uniform against a classic stadium backdrop. Pack-fresh to say the least, its impeccable surfaces, well-centered image, bright white borders and blistering sharp perimeter all combine to substantiate the "POP 2" assessment. No ordinary common, this majestic cardboard heirloom has survived the past 68 years in pristine condition, with its hallowed PSA 10 grade truly earning it the highest hobby accolades!
