SPAHN'S ROOKIE CARD!!! Whatever happened to the high leg kick pitchers of old used to befuddle hitters as they stood in the box watching the opposing hurler contort before heaving a projectile at them at 90 miles per hour? There were certainly some memorably one's from Feller, Gibson, Marichal and even Ryan, but Warren Spahn's leg kick seemed a near circus act, leaning back nearly parallel to the ground and as he held his balance he expertly kept hitters off-balance time and time again. But, if the hitters "studied film", they would know he had pinpoint accuracy and control. Over Spahn's amazing 21-year career, facing 21,547 batters, he hit only 42 batters and only threw 81 wild pitches while cruising to a record-setting 363 victories. Warren Spahn's 363 wins remain the most of any left-handed pitcher in history, and more than any other pitcher who played his entire career in the post-1920 live-ball era. In 1957, with a record of 21-11 and a league leading 18 complete games, Warren Spahn won the National League Cy Young Award. The Warren Spahn Award is given to the Major Leagues' best left-handed pitcher.
