(LOT 1699)
1956 World Series Game 5 Ticket Stub PSA Authentic (Larsen's Perfect Game & Mantle WS HR #8)

During the 1956 Major League Baseball season, the New York Yankees ran away with the American League pennant while the Brooklyn Dodgers squeaked past the Milwaukee Braves to take it for the National League. Once again, the now-reigning champion Dodgers faced off against their crosstown rival Yankees for the seventh time in World Series battle, of which New York dominated to the tune of 5-1. Quickly Brooklyn jumped to a two-game lead, but the Yanks stormed back to tie the series, setting up a pivotal Game 5. Game 1 starter Sal Maglie got the nod for Dem Bums while New York's Game 2 ace took the mound on home field in the Bronx. From there, history was made. Literally at home on the mound, Larsen took the ball and shut down the Dodgers. Already with five strikeouts as the Larsen and the Yankees went to bat in the 4th, Mickey Mantle deposited a home run over the right field wall giving Gooney Bird a 1-0 lead. That was all Larsen needed as he sent 27 batters down in order for the first and only perfect game in World Series history and the first in 34 years. This was one of the most significant performances in Fall Classic history. The Yankees ultimately topped the Dodgers in a hard-fought 7-game series. Offered is a spectacular 1956 World Series Game 5 ticket stub from that performance, which was also highlighted by Mantle's 8th WS home run. Encapsulated Authentic by PSA, this "Grandstand – Standing Room" stub shows obvious and expected signs of age with minimal surface wear sans the stadium portion of the ticket. At center, a fold is visible as if folded and pocketed during the event. The reverse also shows ¼" period paper loss at the perforated edge from the ticket-taker at the ballpark. With excellent color and condition, this remains a highly desirable artifact from one of the great moments in MLB history.
