(LOT 1212)
Group of Over (500) Assorted 1914 B18 Blankets – Including a Near Complete Set and More Than 160 Different Cobbs, Jacksons & Johnsons as well as a Super Rare "Red Infield" Baumann (Fair Condition, but Fully Intact)

The offered is one of the largest, if not the largest, collections of 1914 B18 Blankets that we can recall to ever be offered publicly. These 5-1/4" blankets were produced to be attached to or used for the production of unique blankets, quilts, pillowcases and bedcoverings – thus the B18 name was born. With more than 500 examples within this one lot, can you imagine how many blankets or pillowcases this collection might yield, let alone inspire. The thought of laying you head down next to Paddy Baumann's blood-red infield might be off-putting for some, but a dream come true for collectors.

Folded and inserted in Egyptienne Cigarettes in 1914, this set includes 36 Hall of Fame players and hundreds of stars and commons. Indicative of the overall condition of these unique premiums are the HOFers listed here: Max Carey (EX-MT, EX, FR to GD (2)), Frank Chance - Green Infield (EX (2), VG-EX, Fair w/pinhole), Frank Chance - Blue Infield (EX to EX-MT (3)), Ty Cobb - White Infield (EX-MT (3)), Ty Cobb - Brown Infield (EX-MT and VG-EX), Miller Huggins - Purple Basepaths (EX-MT), Miller Huggins - Yellow Basepaths (VG-EX), Joe Jackson - Green Basepaths (EX, VG-EX and VG), Walter Johnson (EX-MT+ (3), EX (2), VG-EX, FR-GOOD (3, one with pinhole), Casey Stengel - Blue Infield (EX-MT, EX, FR-GD) and Casey Stengel - Green Infield (VG-EX (3)).

Much of the downgrades in this collection are on a very technical basis, but still appear fresh and uncirculated with only about 20-25% showing signs of normal wear expected in such a hoard. The notable exception to this is Paddy Bauman – "Red Infield", in Fair-Good condition with minimal staining. The Bauman was likely added as an example since Red Infield variations are exceedingly rarer and virtually never come up for sale, much less as part of a collection such as this huge assembly.

Few opportunities such as this arise for such a desirable and valuable collection. The possibility of upgrading your collection or liquidating for a healthy profit.
