(LOT 354)
1921 Schapira Bros. Babe Ruth "Home Run" Subject - SGC 2 GD – "Pop 1; Only 4 SGC Examples Graded Higher!

Presented here is one of the rarest of all the 1921 Schapira Bros. Babe Ruth subjects, his ever-elusive "Home Run" subject, graded SGC 2 GD, the sole copy at this eye pleasing plateau with only four examples graded higher! The condition sensitivity and scarcity level of the 1921 Schapira Bros. Candy Co. Ruth issues cannot be overemphasized, with many of these cards residing in SGC or PSA "Authentic" holders. Manually cut from 1921 candy boxes, Schapira Bros. utilized seven different Ruth poses to advertise their popular candy brand, with two of those being different portrait versions. While a portrait image was affixed to one side of all candy boxes, the box's opposite side reflected one of five possible "in-action" images, obviously much more obscure than the portrait pose.

The Bambino's classic swing "steals the show" on this 1921 marvel, as he has appeared to crush another horsehide sphere towards the fences. Crystal-clear clarity, fine resolution, rich red/blue hues and no obtrusive surface flaws complete this timeless heirloom that has most likely been downgraded due to several faint wrinkles and a perimeter cut close to the original frame. Appropriately dubbed "HOME RUN" considering Ruth's record breaking 54 round-trippers in 1920, the Babe would smash his own record by clouting 59 dingers in 1921, with this early 1920s Ruth offering meriting it a final resting place in any world-class "Sultan of Swat" gathering!
