1933 Goudey #220 Signed Lefty Grove (SGC AUTHENTIC)
One of the most desirable signed Goudey's is Lefty Grove's #220 issue, presented here with a bold black "Lefty Grove" script in an SGC Authentic holder. The Hall of Fame southpaw utilized a blazing fastball to lead the league in strikeouts seven consecutive seasons (1925 – 1931), and he still owns the MLB record of 9 single season E.R.A. titles. Unquestionably, his finest season was in 1930 when he posted an unfathomable 31-4 record, leading the league in virtually every category including wins, strikeouts. E.R.A., winning-percentage, complete games and shutouts, with the Athletics claiming their second consecutive Championship. In fact, his 31 wins suffices as the last time a southpaw has posted 30 or wins in a season, with Grove moving on to post an uncanny 300-140 lifetime record – a miraculous .682 lifetime winning percentage that still stands as the finest for all 300-game winners. To place his legacy in perspective, renowned sportswriter Arthur "Bugs" Baer once remarked "Grove's left arm is so fast he could throw a lamb chop past a wolf", and his signed Goudey card is so desirable that a prior example fetched $3.8K in an August 2020 auction!
