(LOT 234)
1933 Goudey #25 Signed Paul Waner (PSA AUTHENTIC) – One of Only 5 PSA Encapsulated Copies!

This magnificent 1933 Goudey #25 Paul Waner subject has been signed by "Big Poison", with his "Paul Waner" black ink script affixed across his Pittsburgh flannels and revealing conservative "7" strength. Considered extremely rare, only four other scripted examples exist on PSA's "Pop" Chart, with another autographed copy fetching an imposing $6.5K in August 2020. Equally impressive is the card's visual appeal, providing solid "VG+" aesthetics via its relatively clean surfaces

and sparkling hues. In an era of hard-living, hard-drinking players, no one drank harder than Paul Waner, and it was once said "Waner hits doubles and triples during the day and drinks them during the night." A legendary story of "Big Poison" occurred when he announced he was "on the wagon" for the season. His batting average hovered around .250, until the team's manager personally escorted Waner to a local tavern. Just a few weeks later, Waner's average was once again above .300 and he never looked back. His greatest season was arguably 1927 when the formidable batsman destroyed National League pitching, hitting .380 with 237 hits, 17 triples and 131 RBI's while leading Pittsburgh to the N.L. Pennant and being named the N.L. MVP. Pittsburgh's star centerfielder, Paul accumulated 3,152 lifetime hits to the tune of a stellar .333 lifetime batting average and captured three National League batting titles!
