(LOT 228)
1933 Goudey #229 Signed Floyd "Arky" Vaughan (PSA AUTHENTIC) – One of Only 2 Known Examples! - Includes a JSA/James Spence LOA

Hall of Fame shortstop/3rd baseman Floyd "Arky" Vaughan was not only considered one of MLB's slickest fielding infielders, but would also post a .300+ batting average in 12 of his 14 seasons, ultimately ending his career with an outstanding .318 lifetime average. Unfortunately for the Cooperstown Inductee, his life would tragically end at the young age of 40 when four years after his retirement, a severe storm capsized his fishing boat in a California lake, leading to the death of him and his friend.

It is his sudden passing that ultimately led to the extreme rarity of a signed 1933 Goudey Arky Vaughan subject, with this PSA Authentic offering one of the mere two known examples. Scripted "F. Vaughan" in black fountain pen, the autograph reveals approximate "7/8" strength, with the Goudey card reflecting super eye pleasing "VG-EX" aesthetics. No obtrusive flaws are evident on either side, with the ultra-rare signature the highlight of this near-impossible offering. Even the landmark "Uncle Jimmy" signed Goudey collection did not reveal a single Arky Vaughan scripted subject, a bona fide testament for the extraordinary paucity level of this ultra-elusive keepsake that joins shares the spotlight with a single other PSA example as the only two known specimens of their kind!
