(LOT 217)
1933 Goudey #154 Signed Jimmie Foxx (PSA 4 VG-EX/AUTO 8 NM-MT) – "1 of 2" & the Highest Graded Jimmie Foxx Signed #154 Goudey!

Presented here is one of the finest Jimmie Foxx signed 1933 Goudey's, an awe-inspiring PSA 4 VG-EX graded #154 example that boasts an extremely bold black fountain pen "8" signature! One of only two PSA 4's, of the mere five PSA certified examples it shares the spotlight with a sole specimen as the finest of its kind! Boldly signed "Jimmie Foxx" to the right of Foxx's sanctified Charles Conlin batting pose, the black ink script literally jumps off the card, neatly penned in vertical fashion during an era when "XX" was terrorizing overmatched American League hurlers. Along with Hornsby & Aaron, many baseball historians consider Jimmy Foxx one of the three greatest right-handed hitters in baseball history. Nicknamed "The Beast" because of his supernatural-like power, Foxx terrorized pitchers to the tune of 534 lifetime home runs, and along with Gehrig, knocked in a record 100 or more runs in 13 consecutive seasons.

Ironically, the year this card was issued, Foxx would claim the American League Triple Crown by belting 48 dingers, knocking in 163 runs and posting a sensational .356 batting average via his 204 safeties. He would end his extraordinary 20-year career with a .325 average, 1,922 R.B.I.'s and an unfathomable 1.038 OPS, easily placing him as one of our National Pastime's greatest all-time sluggers. His imposing image reveals "XX" as if he has just walloped another majestic "long-ball", donning his familiar Philadelphia Athletics gray flannels. No glaring surface blemishes are evident on either side, with the four corners revealing minor wear more consistent with an "EX" example. A close scrutiny of the entire card even begs the question: "why didn't this particular example achieve a "5-EX" assessment?". Indeed, when considering overall eye appeal, one could easily argue this momentous Foxx offering resides as his finest signed Goudey specimen, and one should keep in mind that the other PSA 4 example fetched a staggering $124K in February 2021. Along with the previous Lou Gehrig lot, this highest graded Foxx heirloom truly resides as the most significant scripted Goudey in this extraordinary 228-card set break, retaining a majority of its original aesthetically brilliant attributes over the past 89 years!
