(LOT 69)
1952 Topps #406 Joe Nuxhall "High Number" Rookie Card PSA 9 Mint - Highest Graded PSA Example!

Joe Nuxhall's MLB story is beyond amazing, for after becoming the youngest player to ever participate in a Major League game at the age of 15, he did not rejoin the Majors for eight seasons! On June 10, 1944, 15-year-old Joe Cincinnati Red southpaw Joe Nuxall was brought in to pitch in the ninth inning of a game the Reds were training 13-0. Nuxhall would yield five runs in only two-thirds of an inning and was immediately sent back to the minor leagues, only to return to the big leagues some eight years later at the age of 23 on May 21, 1952. This time, Nuxhall was "here to stay", pitching 15 more seasons while winning a formidable 135 games, with 130 of those victories for Cincinnati. The Topps Chewing Gum Company quickly reacted to Nuxhall's May 1952 return to the Majors, including him as their #406 high number rookie subject in their landmark 1952 gathering. It is his '52 Topps rookie card that is presented here in an extraordinary PSA 9 Mint holder, one of only five existing PSA 9s that reside as the finest of their kind! Stealing the show for this "best of the best" offering is the radiant yellow background that projects the Nuxhall portrait image in "3D" fashion. Near-perfect centering, impeccable surfaces and the absence of any notable flaws to the naked eye all justify the pinnacle grade!
