1924 Willard Chocolate (V122) #39 Ty Cobb PSA 7 NM – "Pop 4"; Highest Graded Example!
In 1924, Toronto, Canada-based Willard's Chocolate Candy company released the Sports Champions (V122) multi-sport set highlighting some of greatest athletes in their respective sports. This 56-card set traversed all walks of sport including surfing, swimming, wrestling, basketball, tennis, golf and, of course, baseball. Baseball was represented by a mere three Hall of Famer in #2 Eddie Collins, #5 Babe Ruth and #39 Ty Cobb, one of which we offer here in a "rare for the grade" PSA 7 NM holder. One of only four examples at this hallowed plateau, synonymous with Cobb's unparalleled batting skills, it stands tall as the finest of its kind.

This 1-3/8" x 3-3/8" black-and-white card is printed on very thin cardboard stock with a blank back. Numbered #39 below his photograph apparently leaping for a high liner, this also reads "Famous Outfielder – Manager Detroit Tigers". The offered shows no creases with a clear image, excellent centering and light wear at the edges and corners. The blank-backed reverse also looks clean and without defects. This scarcity is obviously reserved for the most sophisticated Georgia Peach collector, with its Near-Mint assessment irrefutably placing it as the "best of the rest!"
