(LOT 37)
1915 Cracker Jack #6 Eddie Plank PSA 5 EX

Hall of Famer "Gettysburg Eddie" is one of baseball's greatest all-time southpaw pitchers, justified by his 326 lifetime wins and eight 20-win seasons. The iconic stature of his renowned 1909 T206 tobacco card has placed his vintage cards high on collectors want lists, with his exalted Cracker Jack card one of the most coveted Plank specimens in the hobby. Presented here just happens to be a stellar PSA 5 EX 1915 #6 Eddie Plank Cracker Jack, with any pre-WW1 card of Plank held in the highest esteem due to the prestige of his aforementioned T206 scarcity. Although he is wearing his Famous Philadelphia Athletics uniform, his 1915 Cracker Jack lists him as a member of the St. Louis club of the newly formed Federal League that he defected to in 1915.

Pitching for the Terriers, Plank won 21 games and posted an outstanding 2.08 E.R.A. in 1915, ultimately re-joining the American League's St. Louis Browns for his final two MLB seasons (1916-17). His representation on this offering is superb, with a classic portrait pose set against a robust "fire engine" red background. Atypical near-perfect centering only reflects the slightest "tilt" towards the upper left corner, with modest corner wear and a few faint candy corn stains accounting for the grade. The final compliment is a relatively clean verso, and most would agree this offering depicts EX-MT aesthetics. Synonymous with Plank's lofty 326 victories, this masterpiece is likewise a bona fide winner, meriting serious attention from any sophisticated collector!
