(LOT 1991)
Extensive Run of PSA-Graded Green Pay Packers Cards from 1973 to 2015

Only a handful of NFL franchises can be defined by a "storied history" enduring highs and lows over the course of a century on the gridiron and the Green Bay Packers can certainly lay claim to the term in this centennial anniversary of the team. Established at the behest of Curly Lambeau, who helmed the team for and astounding 28 season in the American Professional Football League (1921) and the NFL (1922-1949), the Green Bay Packers, along with the Chicago Bears and New York Giants, anchored the beginnings of the National Football League. Lambeau won six league championships during his reign. Vince Lombardi, heralded as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history led the Pack to four championship including Super Bowls I & II.

Though Green Bay has employed some of the greatest coaches in history, they have produced Hall of Fame caliber quarterbacks abound from Arnie Herber to Bart Starr and Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay's 13 league championships are far and away the tops in the NFL with the next Giants second at a paltry eight titles. Tom Brady alone has nearly as many crowns! The list of Hall of Famers, quarterbacks or otherwise, who wore the green and gold currently stands at 32, but soon will be 33 or better once Aaron Rodgers hangs up his cleats. As the only team in the NFL owned collectively by its fans, the Green Bay Packers organization touches fans across the globe, but most localized in the upper Midwest.

Our consignor, hailing from northwest Iowa, was one of the die-hard Packers fanatics who meticulously and discriminately assembled this incredible collection of PSA-graded Green Bay Packer cards spanning 1948 to the near present (2017). Not only did our consignor collect Packers cards, but also his concentration centered on assembling only the highest grades in each of the examples he weaved into his collection. His painstaking quest to assemble one of the finest 1948-Present Green Bay Packers Team sets yielded the #2 set on PSA's esteemed Set Registry, valued at well above $90,000, until he fell ill and ultimately succumbed to his illness. This 699-card assemblage, valued at nearly $15,000, is heavy with PSA 9 MINT and 10 GEM MINT examples posting an astonishing GPA of 9.39. The offered balance from our beloved consignor's collection consists of 372 PSA 10 GEM MINT cards, 257 PSA 9 MINT (and one ST qualifier), four PSA 8.5 NM-MT+, 58 PSA 8 NM-MT and 14 lesser with additional lots from this prestigious gathering being offered in this auction.
