(LOT 14)
1916 M101-5 #33 Eddie Collins Blank Back SGC 5 EX - "Pop 2"; Only 3 SGC Examples Graded Higher!

One of Hall of Famer Eddie Collins' scarcer issues, this outstanding SGC 5 EX 1916 M101-5 Blank Back marvel stands as one of only two SGC encapsulated examples at this mid-grade plateau with a meager three specimens graded higher! Along with Hornsby and Lajoie, many baseball historians rightfully consider Eddie Collins to be one of the greatest second sackers of all-time. His statistical achievements make a strong case for this argument including a staggering .333 lifetime average accumulated via 3,315 safeties. Collins was also a complete player, widely regarded as the best fielding 2nd baseman of his era, and was a fantastic base runner, swiping 741 bases throughout a spectacular 25-year career. Donning his classic White Sox pinstripes uniform, Collins had been traded from the Athletics to Chicago before the 1915 season. He would move on to enjoy 12 stellar seasons in the "Windy City" before rejoining Mack's Philadelphia Club for his final four MLB seasons. Brilliant resolution, near-perfect contrast, atypical fine centering and relatively clean surfaces complete this obscure offering that stands as one of the few pre-1920 issues portraying Collins as a White Sox player!
