(LOT 1747)
c.1943-45 Stan Musial PSA Type 1 Encapsulated George Dorrill Photo Measures Approx. 8" x 10" (Incl. PSA Type I LOA)

In 1941, the St. Louis Cardinals called up their 20-year-old star phenom Stan Musial, who in only 49 plate appearances provided the baseball community a "glimpse" of things to come by posting an unfathomable .426 average. Indeed, "Stan the Man" was here to stay, and in the following 1942 campaign (his official full rookie season), he would bat a very formidable .315 as he was about to embark on one of the most spectacular careers in baseball history. Musial's list of incredible superlatives includes a .331 lifetime average, 3,630 hits, 475 home runs, nearly 2,000 RBIs, seven batting titles, three MVP's and a staggering 24 All Star game appearances.

Based on these esteemed statistical highlights, it is mind boggling as to why his name doesn't stand next to Ruth, Cobb, Williams, Aaron, Mays, Mantle, etc. Fortunately, his playing excellence hasn't eluded hobbyists who actively seek his prized collectibles such as this superb c.1943-45 PSA Type 1 George Dorrill illustration. Measuring approximately 8" x 10", the extremely well-centered image portrays an awe-inspiring Musial "crouching" pose as he grips his legendary lumber with an additional four bats situated directly in front of him. Outstanding registration and near-perfect contrast highlight this "timeless" masterpiece that only reveals a few stray wrinkles, modest corner wear and some negligible surface rippling at the upper and lower borders. The final superlative is the verso's critical George Dorrill credit stamp, with this grand offering representing one of our National Pastime's greatest all-time players, the immortal Stan "The Man" Musial during the early stages of his remarkable career!
