(LOT 1719)
1927 Babe Ruth & Anna Nilsson on the Set of "Babe Comes Home" 8" x 10" PSA Encapsulated Type 1 First National Pictures PSA LOA

Babe Ruth was not the first and certainly not the last big league ballplayer to be enticed by Hollywood. In 1927, A First National Picture Company produced "Babe Comes Home" featuring the Bambino opposite veteran Hollywood starlet Anna Q. Nilsson as his love-interest. The semi-biographic film about an overindulgent ballplayer who falls in love with a beautiful woman intent on reforming him was Ruth's second motion picture in ten that spanned over two decades. The offered 8" x 10" features the couple enjoying a treat in a marketplace as Nilsson tries to provide culture to the bigger then life baseball star.

This striking PSA/DNA encased press photo shows little to no signs of any surface wear or border aging. Minimal corner wear. The back holds a "PHOTOGRAPHED BY JAMES N. DOOLITTLE HOLLYWOOD" with some penciled photographer notations, but no other unexpected visible flaws. This image was also used for the 1928 George Ruth Candy Co. card #4 captioned "BABE RUTH The Popular Bambino eating his Home Run Candy His Candy Helped Him." All due respect to Ruth's contemporary, Jimmie Foxx, this is a real beauty and the beast photo. PSA/DNA LOA included. Also included is a signed letter of authenticity from Vice President of Parkman Productions, Inc., Patricia Walsh, daughter-in-law of Ruth's longtime agent Christy Walsh, attesting to the legitimacy of the image being used for the Babe Ruth Candy Co.
