(LOT 1716)
1927 Babe Ruth, Hoyt & Huggins Type 1 Underwood & Underwood PSA Encapsulated

Arguably the greatest team in baseball history is the 1927 New York Yankees, led by the "Sultan of Swat's" 60 home runs and "Murderer's Row" of Ruth, Gehrig, Lazerri, Meusel and Combs. The Yankees would win a staggering 110 games against only 44 loses to the tune of an incredible .710 winning percentage, eventually claiming their second world championship by sweeping the Pirates in an uncontested four games. Along with the aforementioned sluggers, spearheading this juggernaut was a steady pitching staff led by Herb Pennock and Wait Hoyt, with their Hall of Fame manager Miller Huggins paving the way. Presented here is a magnificent 5-1/2" x 7" black & white Type I photo depicting three of the legendary cogs for this "machine-like" club including from left to right: Waite Hoyt, Babe Ruth, and Miller Huggins.

Depicting the finest imaginable clarity and contrast, the image appears as if it was recently issued, showing no signs of any obtrusive wear and virtually defying "Father-Time". The verso reveals the highly-coveted Underwood & Underwood News credit stamp, with the image most likely taken before the end of the regular season that would culminate with the Yankees crushing Pittsburgh in the Fall Classic. The Bambino would add 165 R.B.I.s, a .356 batting average and a league-leading 1.258 OPS to his magical 60-homer mark, while ace right-hander Waite Hoyt would tally an impressive 22 wins and sensational .759 winning percentage, with both figures pacing the Junior Circuit. A bona fide 1927 collectible including the incomparable "Sultan of Swat" as the centerpiece attraction, it allows the collector to reminisce about an era when the Yankees dominated our National Pastime at an unprecedented level!
