1921 Babe Ruth "Steps Up to Top of Dugout" PSA Type 1 Encapsulated George Grantham Bain Photo Measures Approx. 5" x 7" -Incl. PSA Type 1 LOA

The year is 1921 and Babe Ruth never looked better as he dons his classic Yankee pinstripe uniform and seldom seen white pinstripe cap at the Polo Grounds, his temporary home, in this classic 5" x 7" George Grantham Bain News Service photo. Indeed, Yankee Stadium (The house that Ruth built) was not yet constructed and the "Sultan of Swat" would share his home field with John McGraw's New York Giants for three seasons. Little did Ruth realize he would end the '21 campaign with one of the finest slugging seasons ever; walloping 59 round-trippers, knocking in 168 runs and posting an amazing .378 batting average. Ironically, Ruth would lead the Yankees to the 1921 World Series against McGraw's Giants, eventually falling to their cross-town rivals in the Fall Classic.

More significant, however, is this incredible heirloom that portrays the "Bambino" in his seldom seen early-1920s white-capped Yankee pinstripe uniform. The Ruthian image depicts magnificent crystal-clear clarity, with the only negligible flaws being a lower right edge chip, and some even corner wear. The verso reveals the classic "BAIN NEWS SERVICE" stamp (as well as a CULVER SERVICE credit stamp), and a "Babe Ruth left field of Yankees September 27, 1921" typed text. The previous day, Ruth had just clouted his 56th and 57th homers against the Cleveland Indians, and the flamboyant Yankee icon would eventually blast two more round trippers to end the season with a then-record 59 dingers. It is no secret that Babe Ruth photos from his early Yankee playing days are in high demand, especially when they carry the highly coveted "Bain News Service" stamp, with this imposing keepsake turning back the clock to an era when the "Babe" was revolutionizing our National Pastime!
