(LOT 1703)
c.1921 Babe Ruth PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Underwood & Underwood Photo Measures Approx. 6" x 8"

Here is one you don't see very often! The year is 1921 and the flamboyant Babe Ruth is donning his Polo Grounds Yankee pinstripes while handing an avid fan a white puppy (possibly a poodle) as he is being carried away on a stretcher. While we are not familiar with the particular circumstance of this surreal event, what we do know with 100% certainty is that whether it was signing some artifact or demonstrating any act of benevolence, Ruth was always looking to bestow some form of good will towards his enthralled fan base. The 6" x 8" PSA Type 1 illustration has eluded any serious surface flaws, projecting world-class focus and contrast highly sought-after by the most meticulous photo enthusiasts.

The final exclamation point is the verso's critical Underwood & Underwood credit stamp validating its original Type 1 pedigree. Taken during the 1921 campaign, the "Sultan of Swat" would ultimately smack 59 round-trippers, knock in 168 runs and post an amazing .378 batting average. Ironically, Ruth would lead the Yankees to the 1921 World Series against McGraw's Giants, eventually falling to their cross-town rivals in a World Series played entirely at the Polo Grounds. A super obscure grand image, you are now afforded a grand opportunity to capture this extraordinary Babe Ruth keepsake image that turns back the clock to an era when the "Babe" was revolutionizing our National Pastime!
