(LOT 1702)
c.1920-21 Rogers Hornsby PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Charles Conlon Photo - Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2"

The iconic photographer Charles Conlon struck this amazing Type 1 Rogers Hornsby fielding image in the early 1920's, depicting the immortal Cardinals 2nd sacker leaping, fully extended to snare the horsehide sphere. Measuring approximately 6-1/2" x 8-1/2", this PSA Type 1 spine-tingling marvel effectively turned back the clock to when Hornsby ruled the second base position, and in typical Conlon fashion, no illustration could possibly emanate finer contrast and clarity. Hornsby literally appears to be jumping off the photo, with only a forgiving diagonal wrinkle evident near the upper left quadrant.

The flip side reveals the significant Charles Conlon hand-written pencil notes including: "ROGERS HORNSBY St. Louis Conlon Photo" all obviously scripted in Conlon's own hand. Rogers Hornsby's legacy as baseball's arguable greatest right-handed all-time hitter is justified by his incredible .358 lifetime batting average that stands second only to Ty Cobb's .366 mark. Even more impressive was that in a five-year span from 1921 thru 1925, Hornsby achieved three .400+ batting seasons and a record-setting .401 batting average, substantiating why enthusiasts seek his most prized artifacts such as this world-class c.1920-21 Conlon heirloom!
