Extremely Scarce c.1900s Tillie Shafer PSA Type 1 Carl Horner Cabinet Image Used for Shafer's M116 Sporting Life Card Measures Approx. 5" x 7" (Incl. PSA Type 1 LOA)

The iconic Carl Horner arguably resides as one of baseball's foremost all-time photographer, and his "turn of the century" hallowed cabinets are certainly among the most coveted images extant. Considering Horner's Boston-based company resided in a city that housed both American and National league ballclubs, it granted him ample opportunity to snap pictures of virtually every MLB player from the early to mid-1900s. A seemingly countless number of Horner's images eventually found their way onto early 20th century cards, with some of these prestigious issues including 1902-11 W600 Sporting Life Cabinets, 1903 E107 Breisch Williams, 1909 E103 Williams Caramels, 1908-09 Rose Company Postcards, the exalted 1909-11 T206 tobacco subjects, and the 1911 M116 Sporting Life set.

It should be noted that while many of these remaining Horner images were removed from their original mounts, this world-class c.1900 Tillie Shafer offering includes Shafer's sanctified portrait illustration in its original mounted state. Simply stated, this 4-year MLB infielder's sparkling image depicts superior contrast and crystal-clear clarity, a standard trademark of Horner's artistic work. Most significantly, this timeless image was utilized for Shafer's renowned 1911 M116 Sporting Life subject that is part of one of the most breathtaking issues extant. Modest flaws include border toning/abrasions, some diminutive surface peeling near the upper left and lower right corners, and a verso exhibiting an "Arthur Shafer Aug 22, 1909" bold pencil notation. The final superlative is the momentous Carl Horner credit stamp that clearly reads: "Carl Horner Co., WASH'N BLDG. 387 WASHINGTON ST., BOSTON", with this remarkable Horner cabinet worthy of the highest hobby accolades!
