1910 Orange Borders Honus Wagner "Batting" (PSA "Authentic") "One of Only 3 PSA "Batting" Examples!
If you are assembling Honus Wagner's rarest type cards then this is the card for you, with this Orange Border" PSA Authentic Honus Wagner "Batting" scarcity residing as one of only three Wagner "Batting" examples on the PSA "Pop" Chart! Orange Border cards were cut from 1910 candy boxes that included the following typography: "American Sports and Candy and Jewelry". The end flaps indicated that the producers were the "Geo. Davis Co., Inc. and the P.R. Warren Co., Warrenville Lowell, Mass. While the box stated that 144 subjects are included, only some 30+ subjects are currently known to exist, a sure testament to the ultra-obscurity of this issue. This is the first Wagner "Batting" example we have seen in quite some time (as opposed to his "portrait" subject that is somewhat more common), and are certainly not expecting another one to surface for quite some time.

Issued in 1910, Wagner had just led the Pittsburgh Pirates to their inaugural 20th-century championship in 1909, besting Ty Cobb's Tigers in a tightly contested 7-game series. Graded "Authentic" because the card was cut to exclude the orange borders, the super eclectic image of Wagner is remarkably clean, effectively providing a spine tingling "turn of the century" aura of the iconic Pirate Hall of Famer. Gripping his legendary period-style lumber, Wagner would go on to win a National League record eight batting championships (eventually tied by Tony Gwynn), and staking a claim as our National Pastime's greatest all-time shortstop. It is no secret that due to the unparalleled stature of his T206 "Holy Grail", Wagner's pre-WWI cards continue to rise in desirability and value, and this ultra-rare Honus Orange Borders offering just might be his toughest catch!
