(LOT 205)
1909-11 T206 Frank Chance "Batting" Tolstoi Ad Back (SGC EX 5) "Pop 2"; NONE Graded Higher on the Combined SGC & PSA "Pop" Charts!

T206 ad-back mania continues to dominate the vintage card market, with collectors actively seeking the scarcest front/back combinations for their prized tobacco collections. Presented here just happens to be one of those tough player/cigarette advertisement subjects, a seldom surfacing T206 SGC EX 5 Frank Chance "batting" subject reflecting the somewhat scarce TOLSTOI verso. One of only two SGC examples at this eye pleasing assessment, it joins a handful of other examples as the highest graded specimen on the COMBINED SGC and PSA "Pop" Charts!

The legendary 1st baseman from the "Tinker-Evers-Chance" iconic double-play combination, Frank Chance's Cooperstown status was solidified by his managerial success. From 1906 1910 he led the Cubs to four pennants in five years including two World Championships, and this Tolstoi marvel likewise provides championship caliber aesthetics. A brilliant central image, near-perfect centering, relatively clean surfaces and a super bold TOLSTOI cigarettes verso justify the grade, with only some negligible corner wear preventing a higher assessment. Synonymous with Chance, this obscure offering is a bona fide winner, destined to be a formidable attraction in any esteemed T206 compilation!
