(LOT 138)
1961 Fleer #3 Elgin Baylor Rookie Card PSA 9 MINT

This breathtaking PSA Mint 9 Elgin Baylor 1961 Fleer #3 rookie card stands as his most significant cardboard subject. Currently, PSA has encapsulated over 700 examples with a meager nine specimens (1.2%) listed at the hallowed "Mint" assessment and NONE graded higher. Indeed, not a single Elgin Baylor #3 Fleer rookie subject has managed to achieve the "Gem Mint 10" assessment, with this pinnacle offering sharing the spotlight as the finest of its kind! Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor played his entire 14-year career with the Lakers, with the immortal small forward compiling a sensational 27.4 scoring average via 23,149 lifetime points. He tallied 26 triple-doubles, while accumulating sensational 13.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game averages.

An 11-time All-Star and 10-time All-NBA First Team member, he won the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1959 and played in eight NBA finals (although never claiming an NBA Championship). Named one of the NBA's 50 greatest players of all-time, his #22 was retired by the Los Angeles Lakers and this "Mint 9" rookie card offering stands as the perfect testament to his amazing legacy. Virtually every attribute of this 60-year-old card justifies the grade including the pristine classic Baylor image donning his #22 jersey, blistering sharp corner tips, impeccable surfaces, and extremely rich hues including the imposing autumn orange and burgundy background that projects Baylor's illustration to a world-class level. The only imperfect quality is the image's centering that partly favors the upper right edge with a slight tilt towards the upper right corner. Yet, synonymous with Baylor's excellence, the overall brilliant eye appeal and undisputed stature as the highest graded example more than substantiate its "best of the best" stature!
