(LOT 41)
1953 Topps #82 Signed Mickey Mantle - PSA/DNA Autograph  8 NM-MT

The undisputed "Babe Ruth" of the Post-WWII card market, values for Mickey Mantle's highly coveted cardboard heirlooms have soared to stratospheric heights with no end in sight. While his unparalleled mystique is still a profound mystery, one can only assume that his "Goliath-like" unworldly power was one of the main drivers of his legendary hero stature. Worshiped by millions of fans, Mickey Mantle could hit a baseball further than anyone who ever played the game, and even in lieu of a "steroids-driven" environment, no baseball player can wallop a baseball further than Mantle. Incredibly, the "Commerce Comet" hit two balls off the façade at Yankee Stadium, and his 565-foot home run off Senators' hurler Chuck Stobbs at Griffith Stadium in 1953 still stands as the longest official ball ever hit in a Major League game. As a grand testament for his unbridled legacy, presented here just happens to be a sensational signed Mantle 1953 Topps card depicting an outstanding PSA NM-MT 8 black ink signature; one of only 43 total signed examples listed on PSA's prestigious "pop" chart!

The autographed 1953 Topps Mantle card has finally achieved its right respect, with several examples fetching over $20K price tags in 2021. Interestingly enough, this $20K+ value may still be significantly shy of its true worth, especially considering an un-signed PSA 8 example realized a $114K sale in Memory Lane's Spring 2021 auction. PSA has encapsulated roughly 95 PSA 8 '53 Topps Mantles, more than double the count of a signed specimen (43), and we can surely speculate that the paucity level of a signed example versus an unsigned PSA 8 subject will eventually narrow the pricing gap of these two highly coveted cardboard keepsakes. While corner wear, some stray wrinkles and scattered soiling would account for a "Good" to "VG" card assessment, the most critical aspect of this world-class memento is the super eye pleasing PSA NM/MT 8 pen autograph that was scripted across "The Mick's" hallowed Yankee jersey. One of the most sought after early-1950s Mantle cardboard mementos, its extremely low-pop (43) versus the total unsigned '53 Topps Mantle 4,500 PSA population justify the notion that it has unlimited investment potential!
