1962 Topps #200 Mickey Mantle PSA 8 NM-MT
THE MICK!!! After placing a bat in Mantle's hands in their prior two-year's issues, Topps decided to utilize another classic Mantle portrait image for their ultra-condition sensitive, wood-grain bordered 1962 compilation. And based on 1961, it ain't easy pulling the bat from Mantle's grasp. Always one of hobbyists favorite Mantle subjects, high-grade collectors who settle for nothing but the best, endure an on-going painstaking task trying to locate high-grade examples. And the 1962 Topps issue made that search even more difficult! Simply stated, the wood-grain borders and/or edging magnify even the slightest surface flaws, similar to the 1955 Bowman and 1971 Topps issues. With that said, presented is a strong PSA 8 NM-MT specimen of the Commerce Comet that has only been bested by a meager nineteen examples. The centering is near flawless showing minimal favor toward the upper border only, the corners and edges remain sharp with minuscule, inconsequential edge wear. The brilliant image is crisp and clear with no surface wear. It's hard to argue the beauty of this issuance and what more do you need than The Mick!!!
