(LOT 454)
1950 Bowman #22 Jackie Robinson PSA 8 NM-MT

THE NAME GLOWS!!! Statistically speaking, Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson may not be the greatest player to ever put on cleats, but breaking the Major League baseball "color barrier" in 1947 may be our National Pastime's most significant occurrence. For this reason, hobby enthusiasts scramble to collect Jackie's high end baseball cards, and one of them is offered here, his 1950 Bowman subject in an astonishing PSA NM/MT 8 holder. To date, PSA has encapsulated over 1,200 examples, with a mere fifteen specimens graded higher. Jackie Robinson's diamond achievements include an MVP award, leading the Dodgers to 6 pennants and a world championship, stealing bases, hitting for average and power, fielding his position flawlessly and being considered one of the fiercest competitors the game has ever seen.

Yet, for all of his stellar accomplishments, his place in baseball history will forever be correlated with being the first African American to play major league baseball. His courage throughout the late 1940's and '50's was supernatural, and for all of those reasons his number "42" was retired for all of Major League Baseball. Safe to say, this is one of the finest high-grade '50 Bowman Jackie's you will ever come across, starting with his picturesque batting pose that exhibits near-perfect resolution, vibrant color and fine centering. An incredible array of blue, green, brown, and grey hues create a museum quality image framed by four bright white borders. Ultra-sharp corners, a gleaming obverse side surface, and a clean verso complete this "pack-fresh" marvel that has stubbornly defied "father time" for the past 71 years!
