1938 Goudey #274 Joe DiMaggio Rookie PSA 6 EX-MT

DIMAGGIO ROOKIE!!! There isn't a person that doesn't understand the significance of Joseph Paul DiMaggio's place in American history. A super hero with icon status that, with the exception of Yankee predecessor Babe Ruth, far exceeds any player who ever played the game. His 56 game hitting streak in 1941 just may be baseball's greatest record, such to the point that a song was written about Joe that year ("Joltin' Joe DiMaggio, we want you on our side"…") personifying everything he meant to the game. Whether it is his hitting streak, MVPs, World Championships or marriage to the legendary Marilyn Monroe, "Joe D" has always and will forever be not only a baseball Hall of Fame immortal but, more significantly, the true embodiment of a National Hero!

The ultra popular 1938 Goudey "Heads Up" rookie card of Joe DiMaggio is presented here in a spectacular PSA 6 EX-MT holder. The Goudey Gum Co. effectively pleased the public with their 1938 set that included a real photo color image affixed to a caricature body. While the 1936 Canadian issued World Wide Gum DiMaggio subject remains his inaugural major league issue, "Joltin' Joe's" two 1938 Goudey "Head's Up" subjects truly reside as his first mainstream American issued baseball cards. The DiMaggio image portrays magnificent contrast with superior blue, red and yellow coloring, set against a perfectly clean background. Razor sharp edging and strong right-angled corners form a superior perimeter, with a perfectly registered verso providing the final compliments to this museum quality card. To reiterate, we cannot over emphasize the significance of "Joltin' Joe's" place not only in baseball history, but as an American hero. Daunting to say for a baseball player, he takes a place next to legendary Americans such as Abe Lincoln, Davey Crockett, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and, coincidently Marilyn Monroe! His representation on this 1938 Goudey "Heads Up" series is one to own!!!
