1928 Fro-Joy Ice Cream Babe Ruth Premiums (2)
At the height of his career, Babe Ruth adorned dozens of advertisements and promotions as corporate America aimed to catch lightning in a bottle. Fro-Joy Ice Cream was no exception, issuing a 6-card Babe Ruth set, distributed individually with each ice cream cone. For one week, August 6-11, "Fro-Joy Cone Week" enticed children to collect all six cards of the Bambino in various poses. The campaign went even further asking kids to submit the set of 6 by mail in exchange for an uncut sheet of the same cards and a large 8-5/8" x 12" blue-tint premium of the Sultan of Swat. The offered includes a rare pairing of the two premiums. The uncut sheet has sharp edges at bottom and on either side with light mailing corner creases at each top corner. Minor wrinkling; tape residue at left edge; expected surface wear. The large, blue-tint photo of Ruth is in near mint condition and reveals little to no edge and corner wear with minimal surface abrasions and toning. Such a dynamic duo to have survived a one-week release and nearly a century of storage.
