1912 E300 Plow's Candy Home Run Baker PSA 5 EX

Renowned Hall of Famer Frank "Home Run" Baker resides as one of the key subjects of the hallowed 1912 Plow's Candy E300 compilation, with this "Pop 2" PSA EX 5 marvel only bested by a meager 2 other examples! Baker's dream of playing professional baseball became a reality in 1908 when Connie Mack discovered his high-end talents three years before Baker would earn his iconic nickname by blasting home runs off of Rube Marquard and Christy Mathewson in successive games during the 1911 World Series. Adding to his fame was Baker's inclusion in the immortal "$100,000 infield" along with shortstop Jack Barry, second sacker Eddie Collins and first baseman Stuffy McInnis. Yet, for all his stellar batting achievements, "Home Run" Baker would achieve his popular nickname during the aforementioned 1911 Fall Classic when in game#2 he belted a 6th inning 2-run homer off of Rube Marquard to put the Athletics up by a 3-1 score, with the A's eventually winning the game by that same margin. Incredibly, Baker was just warming up because in game#3 with the great Christy Mathewson leading 1-0 in the 9th inning, he blasted another round-tripper to tie the game.

Philadelphia would eventually beat Matty in 11 innings to claim a 2-1 series lead, ultimately winning the World Series in six games. Baker was now a National folk hero, and adding to his fabled "Home Run" nickname was a string of home run titles achieved from 1911 thru 1914, whereby he belted 11, 10, and 12 dingers, respectively. His revered presence on this iconic E300 Plow's Candy offering is nothing short of sensational, issued during the height of his batting prowess. One of the E300's most attractive qualities are the vast array of images not utilized on any other mainstream cardboard issues, and such is the case for this extremely eclectic Frank Baker fielding pose that portrays the star 3rd sacker about to scoop-up another batted ball. You can literally feel the intensity via his stoic facial expression as Baker effectively follows the basic rule for success of "keeping his eye on the ball." The technical assessment is warranted via a super clean sepia-toned surface, near-perfect centering, crystal-clear clarity, relatively clean surfaces, and even corner wear consistent with the grade. Indeed, similar to his remarkable "on the field" attributes that ably assisted Mack's Athletics in capturing 3 World Championships, this ultra-scarce Plow's Candy Home Run Baker cardboard treat arguably stands tall as one of his most exalted cardboard issues!
