(LOT 140)
1911 T3 Turkey Red #27 Christy Mathewson PSA 5 EX

MATTY!!! Presented here is one of the iconic T3 Turkey Red's most prestigious ballplayers and one of baseball's five original Hall of Fame inductees; the immortal Christy Mathewson in a spectacular PSA 5 holder. One of only 8 at this mid-grade plateau, only 6 examples have managed to achieve a higher technical assessment! Christy Mathewson's hallowed name commands the respect and admiration reserved for only a mere few of baseball's incomparable best, inspiring his scared nickname, "The Christian Gentleman".

One of the five original Hall of Famers, winner of 30 games on four different occasions, owner of 373 lifetime wins, and the architect of 3 shutouts in the 1905 World Series against Connie Mack's Philadelphia club, this New York Giants mainstay will forever be one of our National Pastime's "crème of the crop" icons. Any eclectic artifact of the "Big Six" as he was commonly called, is highly sought after by the hobby's top cardboard enthusiasts, but NONE may be more desirable than his 1911 Turkey Red issue depicting a lithographic likeness of the renowned Carl Horner "hands at chest" image.

This offering's "godly" pose is virtually perfect, with its sparkling colored hues, crystal clear clarity, and impeccable resolution elevating this highly coveted T3 to world-class stature. The imposing image is set against a spectacular array of partly cloudy sky and green grass tints, and the four corners still exhibit a majority of their original right angle cuts, with only some moderate wear accounting for the mid-grade. Relatively clean borders, no glaring surface blemishes and a superb verso complete this timeless-like masterpiece that merits a secure place an any esteemed pre-war compilation!
