(LOT 117)
Outstanding 1911 Turkey Red T3 #1 Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown PSA 5.5 EX+

It is fitting that the illustrious Turkey Red set includes Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown as their #1 subject since he truly resides as one of our National Pastime's premier "turn of the century" hurlers. Presented here just happens to be one of his finest preserved T3 specimens, a brilliant PSA Ex+ 5.5 marvel that has only been best by 3 other examples! Brown achieved his iconic nickname when as a young farm-boy he accidently stuck his hand in a corn shredder, severely cutting his index finger and paralyzing his pinky finger. Fortunately for Brown, his deformed hand eventually seemed to be the primary reason for the movement on his pitches, leading him to 239 career wins and a spectacular 2.06 lifetime E.R.A. that ranks as the 3rd best lifetime figure behind Ed Walsh and Addie Joss. Synonymous with his prestigious pitching status during baseball's "dead-ball" era is his astounding T3 pitching pose that literally jumps off the card via its rich gray hues and sparkling tallow/green background colors. A relatively clean surface, modest/even corner wear and a stellar checklist verso also contribute to the strong technical assessment that only falls short of the highest grade by a meager ½ point. It is no secret that locating a high-grade number one card in any set is an excruciating task, let alone one from the ultra-condition sensitive Turkey Red gathering, with this legendary Mordecai Brown offering proudly withstanding the test of time!
