(LOT 92)
1910 E98 Set of 30 Ty Cobb Red PSA 9 MINT

The 2012 "Black Swamp Find" that revealed a myriad of high-grade E98's created one of the largest cardboard frenzies ever encountered in the hobby. E98 mania swept throughout the community, with virtually all of the E98 subjects from the find reflecting the highest PSA grades ever encountered by any E98 issue. No one would argue that the most formidable of all these magnificent cards were the group of Ty Cobb E98's that achieved a sensational PSA Mint 9 grade, and we at Memory Lane are proud to present one of those Mint 9 Cobb's that has only been bested by two PSA 10 examples! The immortal Ty Cobb broke into the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers in 1905 and posted his inaugural .300+ batting average (.316) the following 1906 campaign, the first of an unfathomable 23 consecutive years in which he would surpass the exalted .300 benchmark.

Throughout his incomparable 24 seasons, he led the American League in batting average a record 12 years, including an incredible 9 consecutive campaigns dating from 1907 thru 1915! He also happened to exceed the hallowed .400 mark three times, with all of the above totaling to an unimaginable .366 lifetime average, the finest in MLB history. Synonymous with that pinnacle mark comes along this breathtaking PSA Mint 9 Black Swamp E98 gem, with Cobb's classic "glove outstretched" fielding pose exhibiting pristine quality and set against a seemingly pristine bold red background. The imposing image reveals virtually "dead-on" 50/50 centering between four blinding white borders, and the razor-sharp perimeter includes four pinpoint corner tips. Flawless-like surfaces and an impeccable flipside checklist are the final exclamation point for what may truly reside as one of the Georgia Peach's finest preserved cards on the planet!
