(LOT 81)
1909-11 T206 Cy Young Cleveland, Portrait Piedmont 150/25 PSA 8 NM-MT

Aside from the T206 Ty Cobbs, one of the most coveted 1909-11 ATC subjects is the highly prestigious Cy Young "portrait" specimen that is presented here in an absolutely breathtaking PSA NM-MT 8 holder. PSA's illustrious "Pop" Chart reveals that of the roughly 400 Cy Young "Portrait" Piedmont encapsulated subjects (at the time this was written), this remarkable offering has only been bested by a SINGLE Piedmont Cigarette example (a NM-MT+ 8.5 copy)! Furthermore, of the total 1,000+ PSA encapsulated ad back "portrait" Cy Young's, only two paltry specimens surpass this world-class offering. Indeed, a high-grade Cy Young portrait T206 is one of the most exalted cards in the hobby, carrying a prestige and value so few cardboard keepsakes could ever hope to attain. Cy Young is the legendary author of arguably baseball's most unbreakable record of 511 lifetime victories, justifying why baseball chose his name to represent the annual pitching excellence award.

His "Cy" nickname was achieved early in his career when one of his fastballs blew past a catcher and shattered a nearby fence, prompting a newspaper reporter to compare Young's fastball to a destructive "Cyclone!" Obviously, the nickname stuck, with Young referred to as "Cy" the remainder of his incomparable career. Synonymous with Young's unparalleled achievements is this iconic offering that includes Carl Horner's timeless portrait image. Among the seemingly infinite number of world-class attributes are near-perfect centering, brilliant facial tints, dazzling white borders, a virtually flawless green background, razor sharp corner tips and brilliant surfaces. One of the finest T206 "portrait" Cy Young examples we have ever handled, its "pack-fresh" aesthetics place it at a pinnacle level, and we simply cannot imagine the two higher graded examples boasting finer eye appeal than this 112-year old gem. The final exclamation point is the flipside's extremely bold blue Piedmont 150 Subjects text that is affixed to a bright white surface. One of the most sought after T206's continues to be the iconic Cy Young portrait subject, with this miraculous offering's pinnacle-like attributes ironically similar to Young's arguable "king of the hill" stature!
